“I am a former Touring Professional on the WPBA and a teacher as well. I found Tom’s classes to be excitingly intense, well structured, organized, and EXTREMELY informative. He completely breaks down the rights and wrongs of mechanics, covers very important parts of the physics involved in the game, and the aiming systems he teaches were once SECRETS of many professional players. I recommend Tom’s clinics to ANYONE at ANY LEVEL!
I can't believe I've played at the highest levels for 25 years, and I didn't know this stuff. Everything makes sense now, and I can see how it all fits together. I'm thrilled to be raising my game again."
Diane Crane-Gabbard, Former WPBA Professional Player, General Manager / The Pool Room - Duluth GA, August 2005

"I'm writing to thank you again for a wonderful experience. I recently taught my first few lessons and was told by the clients that they learned more from me (you) in a few hours than literally years of self-taught pool. The excitement that is generated by the knowledge shared is quite evident and rewarding.
Being a life long educator as well as a pool player, I can only tell you that the clinics, as well as the instructors' sessions were incredibly comprehensive, the curriculum well planned and conducive to all levels of ability and experience of participants. From the teaching aides to the hands on and one to one coaching, I can't imagine any instructional setting more complete.
Your passion for the game permeates throughout the sessions. The more I play, teach and observe the game, the more I appreciate just how much we covered in the clinics. Again, thanks Tom, for a very rewarding experience."
Patrick Logan, BCA Recognized Instructor, Super Billiards Expo Champion - Deale MD, June 2005

"After thirty five years
of playing, I thought I had taken my game to the limits of
my natural ability. But working with Tom has really gotten
me back into enjoying the game at a new level. I even look
forward to practice sessions again.
In three days, Tom provided
me new ways of looking at my game; new pool eyes, and renewed
enthusiasm. I recommend Tom's clinics to anyone who isn't
consistently satisfied with their game or wants to improve.
I've always loved the game but I don't think I've ever enjoyed
it more than now. I wish I could have done this years ago."
Bill
Newsted, BCA
Recognized Instructor - Bowling Green OH, June 2005

"I have played for nearly 25 years. For the past 15 or so, I have played at a high level in league play but lacked the consistency I always wanted. A year ago, I received some one-on-one instruction, but found that my game never really improved. I now feel this was because the focus was on drills rather than on my fundamentals.
I decided that I wanted to try another instructor and I heard great things about Tom Simpson and the National Billiard Academy. I made the arrangements and went for the 3-day intensive a short while later. Although my expectations were not very high, I came away with more knowledge and awareness than I could have ever expected. Tom tore my fundamentals down in a way that I could understand. He showed me that what I was doing that did not work for my body structure. He tailored his instruction to each student, realizing that we all may have some slight differences due to size, age, health conditions, etc.
His clinic was very well organized and structured, and he would not move on until he made sure that each student got it. He covered all of the important aspects of the game and why things work the way that they do. He got into the "Aiming Secrets" on Day 3. This alone was more than worth the price of the 3-day clinic. I would suggest Tom's clinics to anyone with a desire to take the game seriously and to advance as a pool player. I am extremely confident that my game is going to go up several levels in the very near future."
Joe Koontz, player, "skeptic turned believer", cue dealer - Dayton OH, August 2005

"I had been playing competitively every day for about 2 years straight before I went to Tom's class. The excitement, knowledge, and skill that he has is phenomenal. The tools I learned in his clinics have exponentially improved my game to a higher level."
Ben Tessean, player - Youngstown OH, February 2005

"I just finished a 3
day clinic with Tom. I would like to say this is the best
money I have ever spent. Tom's clinics are an invaluable
learning tool. If you follow the program, it will improve
your game a great deal. Tom is a first class person and a
great teacher. My game will never be the same. I can not
thank you enough, Tom."
Scott
Nelson, player
- Cincinnati OH, July 2005

"Hey Mr. Simpson,
I would like to thank you for your billiards clinics.
It has been one of the greatest times of my life, and
well worth every dollar spent.
For all the
players out there, I'd like to say I was very pleased
with all that Tom had to offer. The thing I liked
most was that I found more than an instructor
- I found a friend.
I am working on putting
together billiards programs for youths as well as adults.
I am now a Recognized Instructor with the BCA, and
find that I can call on Mr. Simpson whenever I want.
You see, I was able to share so much with Tom. He made
me feel like I was not crowded or rushed.
He has a method that
you would benefit from and I know that because I am
in a wheelchair and I take what Tom has taught
me and use it to minister to our youth. I am from Boston
and I love to play pool, but I could not see how the
Lord was using me in that area. Tom helped me to see
how I could take this back to Boston and implement
my skills with the Dept. of Youth Services and with
churches to give people something to look forward
to. Tom did the impossible.
No matter who you
are, you don't want to miss the opportunity to have
him show you how to jump balls. I had to learn how
to get out of various places using whatever system
I could because, playing 9-ball and in a wheelchair,
people will always try you. I have even more firepower
now that Tom has showed me how to jump over balls in
any situation. Like I said, if he can show me in a
wheelchair, just imagine what he could do for your
game.
I can't wait to visit
Mr. Simpson again next year. If you will give Tom a
call, you won't be disappointed. You see, being a minister,
I give God the glory for sending me to Tom. Beginner
or professional, Tom has what it takes. Don't take
my word. Call him. I did."
George
Evans, BCA
Recognized Instructor, wheelchair player - Boston
MA, April 2005

"I finished 47th in my league. Then I took Tom's class. Finished 5th the next session, then 2nd the last two sessions. I wish I had taken his class years ago, because I'd be on ESPN by now."
Dave Lammers, player - Columbus OH, March 2005

"Thank you for the exceptional and incredibly worthwhile pool clinic. Not aspiring to be a professional pool player, I took the class because I love the game and wanted to learn the right way to play. Wow! When I heard terrific players in class saying they wished they had taken your Fundamentals and Controlling Balls classes years earlier, I knew taking your clinic was an excellent decision. Especially when I witnessed all those good players take your instruction and become much better players in one weekend. They left smiling and so did I, even though I know I need lots of practice. But now I also know that my good playing knowledge, learned in your class, will serve me as I become a better player. I'm definitely planning to return next year for the Aiming clinic.
As a training professional, I can't help but comment also on your impressive ability to teach all levels, and to provide so much one on one, giving each player what they need. You are an exceptional teacher, with your full spectrum of knowledge of the game, including the body and mind, as well as the physics and geometry of the balls and shots. I can see that the fundamentals you teach are truly the foundation of consistency and clearly lead to higher levels of pool playing. THANK YOU TOM!"
Candace Neukirch, player, professional trainer - Boulder CO, May 2005

"After attending your clinics, my game has improved to the point where I won the Most Improved Player award in my pool league. My handicap increased by 2 points in one season!"
Mark Primm, player - Rockford IL, June 2005

"With everything you do, it takes practice. Tom has helped my game immensely. I've made great strides by learning the fundamentals of the game. He was able to help me understand at a speed that was to my own level and pace. Both the clinics and the private lessons are great for everyone who has an interest in improving their game, no matter what your skill level is now."
Bob Lorimer, player - Powell OH, March 2004

"When I went to your clinic I did not know how to play any pool at all. I had read some books but had not really shot very much. I was so bad when I started playing pool that I ended up being a 2 in 9 ball. When I played eight ball I was ranked a 3. Within in one year of your clinic, using the techniques you taught, I am ranked a 4 in 9 ball and a 5 in eight ball. I know of people that have played league for many, many years and are still stuck at level 3 and 4. Thank you so much for all the fundamentals you taught me, which gave me the ability to continue to improve my game. I am looking forward to attending another clinic with you or getting with you for one on one training."
Dennis Watkins, player - OH, March 2003

"I wanted to thank you for the great time and wonderful
learning experience I had at the three day pool clinic
in early August in Columbus. Although I'm far from
new to the game, that was the first time in 43 years
of off and on playing that I ever had anyone show me
what I could improve on.
Any true teacher gets the greatest satisfaction from
seeing their student improve. I'm convinced this is the
case with you. Unlike many golf lessons I've taken
from many go-through-the-motions golf instructors, I
was elated to find you really cared about each student
and their improvement. I would have emailed you sooner,
but I wanted to report good news and not just a lot of
promise of things to come.
There were many things said during those three days
that I really agreed with. None more than the statement
that applies to experienced players as well as beginners. You must
reach a level of proficiency when it comes to pocketing
balls that allows you to go to the next level. How
can you work on how to control the cue ball if you missed
the shot? I don't know about other people, but my mind
shuts down on learning anything after the ball fails
to be pocketed. Quite frankly, I was really lost
on what my problem was before I attended your
clinic. I blamed it on everything from bad vision
to lack of concentration and everything in between. You
don't win a handful of local tournaments, besting 30
other players (as I have) without being able to
play the game. Why then did I struggle to make the
simplest of shots?
The video you shot was invaluable to me. I've been an
elbow-dropper since the first day I picked up a cue stick.
Since you introduced the Magic Move to me,
I have just about worn out my video camera trying to
break a 43 year old habit. Without concentration
and a lot of it, I revert back on a regular basis. I
do see the light at the end of the tunnel. I don't
know how long it will take to ingrain the new stroke. I
do know that there is no going back, and I will succeed. My
confidence level on making shots is up higher than when
I was young with better eyes.
Please don't think I wasn't paying attention
to all the other points made during those three days. I've
read every one of your 50+ articles, some more than
once. I practice the use of stun, throw, squirt,
and pay lots more attention to hitting the vertical axis
of the cue ball. Pool is much more fun now that I
am pocketing more balls with confidence. I was looking
for some kind of breakthrough when I signed up for your
clinic. It turned out to be my fundamentals. I
couldn't be happier; it was money well spent. Keep
up the good work."
David Ray,
player - Columbus OH, September 2005

Update from David Ray, 6 months later:
"Let's say you have this 22 rifle with
open sights and you have been shooting it for 43 years.
Let's say you got to where you could hit something
a lot of times but never had the confidence that you
could
completely control the outcome of the shot (hit or
miss). You always questioned whether it was the gun or
you,
knowing it was some of both, but how much and which
problem was bigger, or at least fixable? Then one day
you go
to Tom Simpson's shooters repair clinic and he discovers
you have a screw loose (no not me, but on my sight).
Turns out my trusty old gun has not been straight with
me all these years. The results: now that the gun shoots
where I'm looking, all I have to do is line it up.
As a bonus, my gun is now a 45 magnum with stronger
draws and pure struck follows and spin. Now this all
sounds
like a giant success story and it is, sometimes. I
have to admit that short of quitting smoking, this
is taking
more time then I have patience for. I know the day
is coming when I'll be able to put the new stroke on
automatic
and devote more time to position and strategy. As for
now, I'm playing better than I have in my life and
I'm sure to play better yet if I can make friends with
a new stroke I'm completely sold on. I look like a
top
notch player for short stretches. I just need to stay
with it and see if you really can teach an old dog
new tricks."
David Ray,
player - Columbus OH, March 2006

"Not to get too enthusiastic, but in the last 3
days I've shut out 4 players, in and out of league play,
all of whom, prior to your clinic, I could not win a
game against."
Richard Dweck,
player - Boston MA, May 2006

"My experience at the National Billiard Academy
was well beyond what I expected. Over the years, I've
spent hundreds of dollars on books, tapes, and training
aids to improve my game. All I really bought was a
lot of confusion. Your instruction was so clear I "got
it" in just a few hours. Absolutely the best
dollars I ever spent on pool. Thanks for the great
classes!"
Frank Moylan,
player - Scranton PA, March 2006

"First, I would like to say THANK YOU for such
a wonderful class. Your three-day class, right from
the beginning, was far more comprehensive than I expected.
Without the fundamentals you taught in the first day
of class, the other two days would have been impossible
for me. One does not see or understand, until the end
of the three-day class, when you have time to sit back
and reflect on the overwhelming changes they have made,
why you took the approach you did, teaching the material
you selected. It all ties together so clearly.
Considering the cost of your Pool Clinic, it is invaluable
compared to the cost of struggling for years trying
to improve your skill level without it. Again Tom,
THANK YOU, you’re an amazing instructor and your
pool clinic is worth its weight in GOLD."
James Danelishen,
lifelong player - Parma Heights OH, January 2006

"Great clinic, Tom. I can't stop thinking about it, and teaching is, for the first time in a while, an exciting prospect again. I couldn't imagine a better or more thorough clinic than yours."
Matt Yuhas,
BCA Recognized Instructor, Artistic Billiards professional, Columbia TN, November 2006

"I am enjoying pool more since your school. I am a lot more confident since attending your school. I am a better player already because of your school, and I will continue to build my skills to become an even better player. Our 9-Ball team just sewed up first place for this session, and I thank you for it. I got rid of my “chicken wing”, improved my stroke, improved my position play, improved my safety play, improved my speed control, improved my draw shots, and most of all have improved my aiming. I have a lot more to work on and I am looking forward to it. Thanks again."
Roger Kelley,
player - Leesburg FL, October 2006

"I would not trade what I learned this weekend for $2000 cash! I will never forget this experience!"
Horace Givens,
player - Atlanta GA, February 2007

"Just wanted to drop you and line to tell you how much I enjoyed the clinic. I learned much more than I had hoped, and you guys did a fantastic job. I am still amazed by the aiming systems. The Weekend Intensive was well worth the investment, and after I humiliate a friend or two I will suggest they look you up."
Rusty Willis,
player - Louisville KY, February 2007

"I enjoyed the intensive in February so much that I can't justly put it into words. I enjoyed it so much that I am adding a pool room onto my home. My excitement over the techniques and fundamentals you taught me threw me over the edge. It is a lot to retain, but I don't think that I have ever been to a class that totally kept my undivided attention every second like your classes did. I am still awe-struck.
The first time I shot in public after coming back home, I had two guys come up to me and tell me that I should film myself playing pool and sell the videos, that they had never seen anybody shoot and make it look so easy. I thought, jeez, these guys need to watch and listen to Tom!"
Gene Hartley,
BCA Recognized Instructor, Columbia SC, March 2007

"As soon as I got home, everybody I ran into at the table wanted to see what I had learned and they told me I am a way different shooter now. I have had a lot of people say they weren’t scared of my game before I attended your clinic, but they watch me now and they say I hope to not face you in the next tournament. You have greatly increased my confidence at the pool table. I still revert back to my old ways at times, then I catch myself and see and hear you walk by and say just what I need. It’s going to take me a while to make all the changes. Next time you see me, you won’t recognize me as the same person who walked into your pool clinic."
Michael George,
player - Plummer ID, July 2007

"Thank you for delivering all that is promised on your course flyer, and then some."
Marcy Kanenson,
player - Baltimore MD, July 2007

"What a wonderful experience! I am completely convinced that if a student comes into your intense class with an open mind, his or her level of pool and enjoyment in pool (and life, for that matter) will increase instantly. I was able to comprehend everything you and your instructors taught me. You are to me what Willie Mosconi must of been like to Paul Newman or Mike Sigel was to Tom Cruise - one hell of a Technical Advisor.
Thank you for teaching the core material and some of the secrets you must know to become a solid player. A man who lived in Elizabeth City, NC with Luther "Wimpy" Lassiter and was a pro player himself, commented to me that it had been a long time since he had seen someone with such solid fundamentals and smooth stroke. And another old-school player who owns a pool hall here in Hampton VA, who has been around them all (especially Wimpy), was impressed with how nice my fundamentals looked. I have to admit it is especially rewarding when you have pros taking notice."
Rick McLane,
player - Yorktown VA, January 2008

"The time I spent at your school was one of the most influential and gratifying times in my life."
Randy Wippich,
player - Pittsburgh PA, February 2008

"Your instruction has changed my game, my standing at the pool hall, my sphere of Influence, and my life in general. I still get ribbed when I miss a shot. There's always someone who shouts out that he could have taught me that shot without the need to go to Pool School. Conversely, when I make a great shot someone else mumbles that I went to Pool School so of course I made that shot.
The fundamentals you teach are such a good base. If I've had a bad day, or if I haven't found my groove yet, or even in the pressure of competition, I always fall back on the fundamentals. I amaze myself with the shots that go in. My APA hasn't gone up yet but I'm sure it will, because I am consistently beating players with higher skill levels than mine. What I like best is the level of acceptance I now enjoy with the great players in our area."
Pete Ellermann,
player - Ventura CA, March 2008

"Best class I could ever ask for."
Tim Palmer,
player - High Springs FL, April 2008

"I have to tell you that I have been to numerous educational seminars (most, but not all related to medicine) that usually promise the moon but fail to deliver. Your Weekend Intensive was well organized, comprehensive, as individualized as was needed, and very enjoyable.
I confess I was skeptical of the "aiming secrets of the pros", yet you not only delivered, you exceeded my expectations. This morning my wife caught me at 6:45 in the pool room with a big grin on my face - I was stroking, jumping balls, and pocketing balls using [one of the secret systems] like a grinning lunatic.
I will be looking to send you anybody who asks me about instructors."

neurosurgeon, player - Sea Island, GA, June 2008
